Resident Public Safety

Resident Public Safety

Public Safety is a high concern for Grant Houses resident leadership, and for public housing residents throughout the City. Working with local community technology partners, resident leaders are utilizing technology in innovative ways to address this concern.

Virtual Tenant Patrol

John Johnson, past Chair of the Citywide Council of Presidents and President of the Mott Haven Resident Association, believed that residents must take control of  their own safety and quality-of-life in the places where they live. One of the central ways that he was able to accomplish this was by the creation of the Virtual Tenant Patrol (VTP) service.

The VTP service enables Resident Association Tenant Patrols, as well as residents themselves, to view their building lobbies, front doors, playgrounds and other common areas remotely, out of harm's way. As Mr. Johnson says, "
We Are Watching Us".

The VTP service is completely controlled by Residents, and thanks to the vision of John Johnson, has been expanded to many other developments.
